Key Person and Learning Journeys

Key Persons

The pre-school has a key worker system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible for. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what the pre-school provides is right for your child’s particular needs and interests.

When your child first comes to the pre-school, she/he will help your child to settle and throughout your child’s time at the pre-school, she/he will help your child to benefit from the pre-schools activities.

Child development folders – LEARNING JOURNEYS

The pre-school keeps a child development folder for each child. Staff and parents working together on their children’s record of achievement is one of the ways in which Staple pre-school and parents work in partnership.

Initially the parent fills in a ‘My Unique Story’ document; we use this as a starting point. Then we record significant learning goals with photographic evidence, and place in the folders.

These are then given periodically to the parents to share with the child. Parents make comments and return the folders. Your child’s record of achievement helps us to celebrate together her/his achievements and to work together to provide what your child needs for her/his well-being and to make progress.

The information that parents and key person collect together will enable the key person to identify your child’s progress. Together we then decide on how to help your child to move on to the next stage.

What OFSTED had to say about our Learning Journeys “The Learning Journeys are filled with photographs of children playing and parents feel that they are a wonderful reminder of time at pre-school and very valuable to them.”
